Talked to D, his father may come, but his female unit is deathly afraid of firearms. I got her to hold an AR-15 once (not at a range), but that was about it. If she's going to shoot, it's going to have to be a "we're the only ones at the range" sort of deal, and it'll probably have to be suppressed until she gets past the psychological hurdles. The "bang"/"boom" will probably do her in otherwise (and might even if she does start to enjoy it).

Yea, OKSS would be a car pool. Trail glades... eh. That's a possibility. They used to require a ~1hr "range safety" course before you could shoot, and I'm not sure they'll let some of my toys be played with out there. They DO, however, have a "practical" range (holds 6-8 shooters at a time) which may be more "free". I'll give them a ring when they open (1pm today) and see what it would take to rent that out.

All of a sudden, I'm thankful I finally took the time to become an NRA RSO!

Ok, I just got a call back from the local "anything goes" range -- we can ALL go out there on the 28th (I wasn't sure I could bring more than a couple of guests at a time, but I've been assured that even 10 or 12 guests at a time are just fine). I will need a rough head count for them (as an FYI), and we can NOT shoot plastic bottles under 1gal in size (sucks for me as I've been saving up 2l bottles for months!), but everything else goes.

It's located on US27 a few miles south of 595, and will be open from 9am to 2pm on Saturday April 28th. The Range fee is ~$21.20/ea and it is "bring your own everything" - targets, guns, ammo, food, etc. Ladies used to shoot free every day, however I'm not sure that is still the case. I'll re-confirm range fees (i.e. if they're higher for guests, and the status of "ladies free") with the owner and will post up.

Mike, unfuck your schedule! This may be legendary!

This is an "anything goes" type range -- rifles, pistols, shotguns, machine guns, suppressors, explosives, grenade launchers -- literally anything goes with pretty much the only exception being artillery.

For real Mike, get somebody else to cover.

C'mon by now you should have some "pull" there, you know, for when
you want to do stuff. I'm not specifically talking about this event,
just in general.

Something always comes along that makes as all say :
"Dam, I need to get out of work for that". 8-)

Well, considering that I'm the only other person that can do what this guy does, plus the fact that while you are trying to get promoted, you are their personal bitch. I'm not 100% on it yet so I'll know on next Wednesday if I am or not.

Sig .40s&w/.357sig: everything is identical EXCEPT for the barrel. My P226 was also a .40 when I got it; I bought a factory Sig .357s barrel and voila! The .357 is dead sexy and just "feels right" to me in the gun, but the .40 ammo is going to be easier to find and cheaper to shoot. Regardless, with the gun and both barrels, you essentially have two guns you can shoot depending on ammo availability.

From the guy who couldn't understand why I'd buy a .357SIG instead of a 9MM.

Yea, but I was also talking to a guy who only owns ONE firearm. :-P

I think if you're going to own only a single handgun, 9mm is probably the best choice. The ammo is cheap, plentiful, and has less recoil and muzzle blast than the .357 sig - which is a plus for a "single gun" owner as they're prone to hitting the range only once every few years.

The real irony here is that this is coming from a guy who, up until a year or 18 months ago, didn't own a single firearm chambered for 9mm. ;)

I'm not sure if, I will be getting the 28th off?

I'll find out later or tommorow when I see my
manager. If I am off that day, I'm there,
paid day off and I get to go shooting, woot!

6/17 also works for me.

I don't know that I have it off either, actually.

I was thinking it might be one of the "big" holidays that "everyone" gets off. Perhaps the 17th is the better choice then?

You make a valid statement Paul, but it's an outdoor range
all the way out west. I can definitely see a place like Shoot Straight
being very busy that day. I could be way off though, maybe Will
could call just to make sure.

In either case, I think I'm off that day and if I'm not, I'll still take it off.

The weekend of the 17th is also doable as well, I say the sooner the better.

I wish I went shooting today, oh well.

It would probably be tough to get the 28th off. Fuckin retail sucks. I need at least 2 weeks notice to put a day off request in. At this moment, the 17th seems alright.

I don't have anything to do that day, but you listed me last, so I can't go.
